First Thing's First:

Thank *YOU* for coming back after out 2+ year hiatus. We've spent a great deal of time moving from Asheville, NC to San Diego, CA (Best move ever)...Getting settled...Working too much...Losing 4 of our dogs and a parent...and a lot of deciding back and forth about whether or not to pick this blog back up.

All in all, it's been (for lack of a better word) interesting.

Now...Down to business...

The Story

Simple enough...Italian sounded good for dinner, but we wanted to try someplace new, and found Tiramisu Trattoria on Open Table. It had decent reviews, so we thought "What the hell," and gave it a shot.

When we got there, we were greeted and seated immediately...Which was nice. However, we then waited somewhere between 10 and 15 minutes for our 12 year old waitress (or any of the 3 other wait staff and owner/manager) to acknowledge that we were there and bring us some water, only to run away before we had a chance to say anything like "We're ready to order..." (we had plenty of time to look at the menu).

I think that they could tell that we were annoyed (I was actually close to suggesting that we walk out)...the rest of the time we were there, they seemed nicely attentive. So, we finally got a chance to order...and got some bread and more water. Things were looking up. :)

And they did, indeed improve. our appetizer, some more bread, and entrees came out quickly, but not on top of each other, and were rather tasty.

The restaurant itself is fairly unremarkable. While there is some, somewhat noticeable artwork, there is a lot of bare, echoing walls. So, it's kind of loud. However, this seems to be the way of things lately. I suppose restaurants are going for the "cafeteria" ambiance...meh.

The Verdict

While the food was good...almost surprisingly so, we're finding it kind of hard to get over the part where we were ignored for the first 10-15 minutes. This, and the "blah" ambiance has this place listed in the "Meh" list.

I'm sure that we'll go back. So, I'm hopeful that they'll move them selves to the FTW list...

This is their "Signature Tiramisu"...it's okay.
